Our proposals for this unprecedented ‘revival scheme’ - whereby the Grade II listed North Block of the Royal Brompton Hospital would be restored and converted and teamed with two new buildings to provide a total of 74 apartments - were conducted on a fast track ‘design and build’ basis which, from the date of purchasing the site to the development’s completion, was achieved in under three years.

The Victorian hospital building was designed to a Tudor Gothic style complete with magnificent brick and decorative stone elevations; by contrast the interior - with the exception of a very grand entrance hall and staircase - was largely devoid of architectural detail. The former hospital wards and wide corridors were converted into large apartments without destroying the integrity of the original structure. Our designs for the two new apartment blocks/buildings, which were required by English Heritage to reflect the style of the main hospital building, employed matching red brick and stone work to provide an architectural consistency that seamlessly embraces the new build and period structures as one.
